Rocky Mountain Escape ensures that each guest receives an
optimum, personalized experience. Our guests can be assured of an
exciting and memorable adventure.
A wide variety of nature excursions awaits the adventurer, guided by
expert outdoorsmen. Discover behaviors and favorite haunts of wildlife
abundant in the subalpine area. Discover wild plants and learn how the
local people long ago used them. Marvel at mountain panoramas, silent
clear lakes, secluded valleys and trickling spring-fed creeks. Relax by
a cheerful fire amid the glow of honey-colored, hand-hewn logs inside
your handsomely appointed cabin.
Wrap yourself in a home-made afghan and listen to wolves sing or touch
the stars from your private deck. All meals are prepared for you,
cowboy-style on a wood-fired range. To escape a modern world, call early
to reserve your space in the unspoiled Alberta wilderness.
Self-Guided Interpretive Nature Trails:
Choose among several marked trails in the immediate area of the lodge site.
Stroll through a pristine woods in a protected valley on a carpet of moss. Rock
Hounders, try panning for gold on Munn Creek, which alternates between rushing
waters and dry creek bed. A take-along boxed lunch, detailed maps and a booklet
of wildlife and plants are provided.
Hourly Horseback Rides:
Enjoy the spectacular scenery of Rock Lake and Willmore Wilderness
astride a sure-footed, gentle saddle horse. Rides are available for 1 to 4
hours. NOTE: We can also accommodate guests who bring their own horse.
Jasper National Park:
A side trip to one of the most beautiful parks in Canada is just an hour
away. Visit historic Jasper townsite, Maligne Lake, Mount Edith Cavell, the
Columbia Icefields and more. Jasper also features one of Canada's most diverse
selection of wildlife.
Cadomin Caves:
Explore the mystery of ancient caves just 1.5 hours from the lodge site.
Visit old mining settlements along the historic Coal Branch region. Spelunkers
will want to bring their own gear.

Rates: Peak season (mid-June to
mid-September) is $125 (Cdn funds) per adult per night and includes private
cabin accommodation, all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner with complimentary
wine), guided day hikes and transportation to and from trailheads.
Off-peak rates are $125/night for the cabin and $35/adult/day for meals, with
guided day hikes or cross-country skiing/snowshoeing (season-dependent)
included.

How to Find Rocky Mountain Escapes:
Travel west from Edmonton (there is an international airport in
Edmonton) towards Jasper on modern 4-lane Highway 16 for 300 kilometres
(approx. 188 miles), or east from Jasper on Highway 16 for 100
kilometres (approx. 62 miles), until you arrive in the historic mining
and logging town of Hinton, Alberta. From Hinton, travel north on 2-lane
paved Highway 40 for 50 kilometres (approx. 31 miles). Make sure your
camera is loaded for capturing shots of elk, deer and moose on the road!
Turn left at the Rock Lake turn-off, heading west into the mountains on a
narrow, winding gravel road for 25 kilometres to the Rocky Mountain Escape sign
and parking area. The cabins are 3 kilometres from the parking area -- guests
may choose between taking the casual stroll into the site, or being transported
in via horse-drawn wagon, sleigh or dog sled. Rocky Mountain Escape staff will
also happily arrange transportation from Edmonton or Hinton to the site upon
request.
NOTE: Edmonton is located three hours
drive north of Calgary via Highway 2.
