Pura Vida Hotel is a delightful colonial
style former coffee finca with a main house/Cas a,
a studio overlooking Poas Volcano and 4 free standing Casitas set in a
secret garden overlooking the Rio Itikis valley below. A walk through
the garden will find you face to face with Cana India, Mano Tigre,
Heliconia, a small cafetal, a pineapple garden, an orchidarium and Reina
de la Noche among many other bird and butterfly attracting bushes and
trees. Not just Heliconia plants but Heliconius, Monarch and "glass
wing" butterflies as well as hummingbirds will greet you as you wander
in the place we love to call home.
After a drive from Cahuita, Montezuma
or an internal flight from Drake Bay or Samara or Tamarindo relax on
our garden terrace. A sip of wine, a euglossine bee floating by, Tuetal
village and the slopes of Poas at sunset - Pura Vida! The best place to
start and end your journey to Costa Rica.
Local day trips include:
Zoo Ave (10 mins from here) - in
nearby La Garita - not just a Zoo - a place where animals go for rehab,
one of the nicest Zoos on the planet - more animals than you'll see
everywhere else in Costa Rica
La Guacima Butterfly farm (15 mins
from here) - make sure it is a sunny day
Volcan Poas OR La Paz Waterfall Gardens
(45 mins uphill) - leave early (no later than 8am) for the view - if you
go by private taxi we can shift the itinerary if it is clouded that day
Grecia, Sarchi & Zarcero (4 hours
round trip) - wood crafts, shopping and memorable photos
San Jose - 1/2 day city tour -
museums, city walk etc - by taxi or tour operator
Doka Coffee Tour (10 mins from us) -
pilgrimage to Doka just up the hill from us - this is the real one

one of our favorite places locally - acres of interesting herbs, unique
trees and produce

Orosi or Lankaster Gardens - an excellent day trip, our favorite -
orchid season in the spring
