What
can you expect for the upcoming season?
In an uncertain world, this question is on the minds of many innkeepers.
In this newsletter we have attempted to reach some logical conclusions.
Statistics:-
Statistics are hard to come by, but travel associations recently
predicted multi-million dollar losses from overseas tourism this year.
However, with victory imminent in Iraq, those assessments could now
prove to be totally
inaccurate.
The Up-Side:-
The public’s reluctance to fly, and the strong “stay at home” mentality,
could be a big plus for North American Innkeepers. For every one
overseas visitor lost, there may well be a gain of two N. Americans, who
elect to remain on home shores. The end of hostilities in the Middle
East will help ensure our oil supply, and reduce gas prices. The result
should be a more stable economy, resulting in increased business for
innkeepers.
We Live in an Emotion
Driven World:-
The world today appears to be driven by fear. But the elimination of
Saddam Hussein will create a sense of relief around the world which
should have a positive effect on travel, and be good news for
innkeepers. There may well be a surge in travel this summer with people
in a celebratory mood.
Summary:-
Based on the logic that most people will probably travel within N.
America this year, we predict a good season for innkeepers. With the war
over, and some semblance of stability restored to the world, the
resultant drop in fuel prices should lead to a gradual improvement in
the economy and confidence in general. Road trips are most likely to be
the preferred vacation option this season, and that’s a big plus factor.
How to Increase your
Business this Summer:-
Realistically, there are only two ways to
increase your volume of business: Increase your advertising, or improve
it.
Improving your
Advertising:-
Do your present accommodation directory listings really “Sell” your
property? Do they have an abundance of photographs to satisfy the
curiosity of customers? Are they laid out in a stylish, eye-catching,
easy to read format?
Database versus
Hand-Crafted:-
Most accommodation directories are databases. The innkeeper fills out an
online form, and the text drops into a pre-determined position. The
result is a “block” of text, with perhaps a photograph or two placed
unimaginatively at the top or side. Directory owners love databases
because the work involved for them is minimal, but so are the results
for your business.
Hand-Crafted:-
In contrast, Hand-Crafted listings are time consuming to create (we
average between 2 & 4 hours on a listing), but the end result is an
eye-catching, stylish page, which is a pleasure to look at. Most
importantly, it really “sells” your business. We include more
photographs, arranged them in a creative fashion and present your
property in the most enticing way possible.
