Chicago's Finest Accommodation for Business Travelers

The Comforts of Home. China Doll feels like home because it is a home, specially designed to make you forget you're on a business trip even as your productivity soars. From fireplaces to cozy living areas to gourmet kitchens filled with dozens of breakfast foods and your favorite beverages, you may feel as though your own mom had prepared for your stay. You can enjoy dining in the kitchen, in a roomy, cushioned dining area, or outdoors overlooking our lush garden.

We provide a selection of classic movies that can be viewed in the living room or the bedroom, or you can just enjoy some light background music on our full entertainment system. And when you're ready to work out, China Doll guests receive discounted admission to nearby Bally Total Fitness ($5) and the Lehmann Sports Club ($10). On your next trip to Chicago, you may feel as though you never left home.

The China Doll accommodates up to ten guests in our larger unit, China Doll II, and up to six guests in our garden unit, China Doll III. A combination of queen and full size beds, queen size sofa beds, and high-quality queen size Aerobeds allows for great flexibility and comfortable sleeping arrangements for all.

We Mean Business

As a former traveling business executive himself, China Doll owner Jim Haring knows what you need to remain productive during your stay in Chicago. It's all provided for you. The office areas in both apartments include a computer with MS Office and high-speed cable Internet access, as well as a scanner, fax, and black-and-white laser printer. Low-cost color laser printing is available via our wireless network, and a photocopier and CD writer are also provided in both units. A color inkjet printer is provided in our garden unit, China Doll III.

In the garden unit a conference area seats four and is equipped with an overhead projector and a wall-mounted television with computer hook-up that allows you to make presentations from your own notebook computer. China Doll II, our larger unit, also has ample space for meetings and spreading out your work. Ample stationery is provided for your printing and mailing needs.

We haven't forgotten the other things you need to accomplish during your stay.
Here are a few of the additional amenities we offer for busy travelers: a laundry room with full-size washer and dryer, a wall-mounted ironing board and iron, a closet full of fresh linens, and an electric buffer/polisher with an array of polishes and saddle soap.

Before retiring, we hope you will treat yourself to a few of our more luxurious comforts. Soak (or even dine) in the Jacuzzi hot tub, or let your tensions melt away in the heat of the steam room. Then slip into a soft, plush bathrobe. Treat yourself to an assortment of soaps, bath oils, and fragrances.

Special Breakfast Foods
We will stock the kitchen with any requested and generally recognized breakfast food. Vegetarian and organic food requests will be honored. Even though we personally consider cold pizza to be a breakfast food, we do draw the line at cold pizza. If you want cold pizza, you will have to order it the night before. Sorry, we do not cook for you, but if you wish to cook, we will be pleased to stock eggs, bacon, sausage, pancake mix, ready-to-bake pastry, potatoes for hash browns, or any other reasonable breakfast food you request. Without a special request, the standard fare includes several types of cereal, several juices, yogurt, fresh fruit, English muffins, bagels, muffins, croissants, coffee, tea, cream cheese, butter, margarine, and several flavors of jam.

Housekeeping
We will check and restock the kitchen every couple of days. There is a supply of fresh towels and linens in each apartment. We will provide weekly housekeeping and linen service.

Our Neighborhood:
We are located just five minutes from I-90/94 at the northern edge of Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood, famous for its combination of stately homes, thriving businesses, fine restaurants, and fabulous entertainment.

The world-famous Steppenwolf Theatre Company is home to such groundbreaking actors as Gary Sinise, John Malkovich, and John Mahoney, and is a star of our neighborhood. Other premier stage performances are presented at the Belmont Theatre and the Briar Street Theatre, the original home of Blue Man Group.

Chicago is famous
for the blues, and our neighborhood offers two great places to hear authentic blues — Kingston Mines and Chicago Blue, both just a two-block walk from the China Doll. Thriving Lincoln Park also offers dozens of other places to hear great music, dance, drink, dine, and make your stay in Chicago a memorable one.

The China Doll is in a perfect location to host visitors to DePaul University just a few blocks away. We are also conveniently located to Columbia College and the downtown campuses of Loyola University and Northwestern University.

Our local sports attraction is nearby Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs. If you are a baseball fan, you owe yourself an afternoon trip to this historic ballpark, with its friendly setting in a residential neighborhood and its ivy-covered brick walls, surrounded by rooftop spectators. China Doll guests also receive discounted admission to nearby Bally Total Fitness ($5) and Lehmann Sports Club ($10).

And don't forget the Lincoln Park Zoo. A delightful attraction with no fences and no admission fee (donations graciously accepted), this great American landmark is open to the public year-round. We are also conveniently located for guests who may be visiting loved ones in nearby Children's Memorial, Illinois Masonic, St. Joseph's, and Grant Hospitals.

Parking
We provide guest passes for the neighborhood street parking zone. In case you have difficulty finding parking on the street, we have an arrangement with the nursing home right behind our building to allow our guests to park in their lot for $10 per 24-hour period with unlimited in-and-out privileges. The entrance to the lot is on Diversey Ave. opposite Walgreen's pharmacy. You should park in the back of the lot and place one of our brochures on the driver's side dashboard. The lot is frequently full in the middle of the day but starts to empty out by late afternoon.
