The 1896 House Country Inn and Motels is an upscale three building lodging and dining complex on 17 rural acres. It is comprised of two truly lovely motels, "Brookside" and "Pondside", centered by an historic 1896 landmark barn. The 1896 House barn houses a renowned tavern & fine restaurant, called The Hunt Club and six Country Inn luxury suites named "Barnside" which function as a distinctive Bed and Breakfast.

The 1896 House offers 17 acres of natural beauty and country space with incomparable water landscapes, romantic footbridges, gardens, and a stately gazebo to embellish the scene.

The serene duck pond with its curved stone bridge create a mini Shangri-La at Pondside while Hemlock Brook winds through the flowering banks and lattice footbridges at Brookside and Barnside. Our signature Adirondack chairs dot the property, allowing you many perfect spots from which to enjoy the view.

Barnside Georgian Suite 1725-1835

The 1896 House "Barnside" Luxury Suites were created to anticipate your every need and to provide a unique and exceptional lodging option in Williamstown. All six suites have a ground floor entrance from an exterior wicker-filled country porch. They each provide one grand room, (many with 10 foot ceilings, 48 feet deep), with a king size bed, dining area, large living area, and a mantled gas fireplace. The romantic beds are all pillow topped, and most have canopies or 4 posts.

The 1896 “Pondside”, a short walk from “Brookside” & “Barnside” is bright, cheerful and decorated in a crisp “Cape Cod” feeling”. It offers two queen beds per room and the same great Williamstown location - simply with fewer extras. It's perfect for our economy-minded guests.
 

  A Gracious Dining Experience  —

Executive Owner & Chef Bob Ayers, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America operates The Hunt Club "High Spirits & Gracious Fare", an elegant restaurant and tavern in The 1896 House barn. The Dining Room Menu focus is classic cuisine with pampered service. Wing chairs & a formal raised paneled dining room create an elegant dining experience.

How to Find Us

From the South (NY City, New Jersey):
From NY 87 (Northway). Take Exit 6 (Schnectady Troy & Watervliet). Take right off ramp. Travel a full 45 minutes
up and down a mountain until you reach Route 7 in Williamstown Massachusetts. (Ignore the Route 7 E-W half way near the Stuarts in New York). Take Rt. 7 North (left) in Williamstown. We are 1/2 mile on right.
From Taconic Parkway: Take Rt. 295 East to Rt. 22 North to Rt. 43 East to Rt. 7 North. We are 2 miles on Right.

From the North (Vermont):
Follow Rt. 7 South to Williamstown. Take right at tourist booth. Take left at Williams Inn. We are 2 miles on Left

From the West (Albany):
From NY 87 (Northway). Take Exit 6 (Schnectady Troy & Watervliet). Take right off ramp. Travel a full 45 minutes

Take Mass. Pike (Rt. 90) to Exit 2 (Lee)
Take Right off ramp Rt. 20 West. This will turn into Rt. 7 North. Follow signs to Williamstown. Be very careful around
Pittsfield Rotary, and the immediate left after the rotary. We are 5 miles beyond the "Entering Williamstown" sign on right. OR: Take Rt. 2 West. Take a left in front of Williams Inn. We are 2 miles on left.
