Few roads evoke such romantic images of the American Southwest as the El Camino Real. The historic route linking Mexico City and Santa Fe is one of the oldest thoroughfares in the United States. Since the 16th Century explorers, soldiers, adventurers, and farmers have traveled this route seeking gold, land, and happiness.

Into the 20th Century it continued to serve as a main highway by its designation as U.S. Route 66; making Albuquerque the transportation hub of New Mexico and of the entire Southwest.
 

Hacienda Vargas is the only bed and breakfast Inn along the historic El Camino Real. Nestled in the Rio Grande Valley in the village of Algodones. It continues to greet travelers and pilgrims as it has since the 17th Century.

Algodones was originally founded as a military garrison to provide protection for the merchant wagon trains traveling between Santa Fe and Chihuahua, Mexico. As late as the 19th Century it was the site of a military supply depot. No doubt, one of the reasons General Kearney and the Army of the West occupied it in 1846.

Today, the sound of the passing train establishes a unique and special link to the 19th Century; directly enhancing the New Mexico experience!

Because of its location on the El Camino Real, Hacienda Vargas Bed and Breakfast Inn has evolved into a romantic getaway for native New Mexicans. It is a testimony to the romantic ambiance to be found here. Some pledge their devotion to each other by exchanging marital vows in the Hacienda Vargas chapel and spending their wedding night in one of the suites with a private Jacuzzi and authentic Kiva fireplace. The adobe chapel, unchanged since its construction, has witnessed weddings on many occasions.

Quality Accommodation

Hacienda Vargas offers seven guest rooms featuring traditional adobe work, exposed vigas, Kiva fireplaces and furnished with antiques. Prices range from $89 - $149 and include a full delicious breakfast!
 

All rooms have private entrances. Rates are subject to change. State and local taxes are not included in advertised rates. Prices are based on double occupancy. $15 is added for each additional person.

We do small intimate weddings from just the couple to large events of up to 300.  We can do small weddings (up to 15) in our historic 200 year old adobe chapel or up to 200 in our inner courtyard and 300 in our large north yard. From very elegant weddings to informal events, we have a garden setting with grass, trees, flowers, pone with fountain, gazebo and a historic bell tower

Packages range from $450 to $3600. 

Packages can include the following:
● Free parking for all the guests.
● Parking attendant to facilitate.
● Tables and chairs.
● Assistance with coordination of the event.
● Assistance with facilitation of the event.
● Up to 7 rooms (accommodations for up to 20 guests).
● Breakfast for all overnight guests.
● Facilities for the rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, ceremony and reception

How to Find Us

Hacienda Vargas Bed and Breakfast Inn and Wedding Chapel is located 25 minutes north of Albuquerque Airport and 35 minutes south of Santa Fe. Take I-25 to the Algodones Exit 248 (approximately 5 miles north of Bernalillo); head west towards El Camino Real (Hwy 313); then south on El Camino Real (historic Route 66). Hacienda Vargas is the first house on the right.

Policies:
● We ask our guests to refrain from smoking inside the house.
● Deposit required when reservation is made.
● For a refund, a 10 day cancellation notification is required.  A $35 processing fee will be charged for all cancellations.  Deposit and cancellations policies vary during peak periods.
● Check-in time is 4:00pm to 6:00pm unless other arrangements are made.
● Check-out time is 11:00am.
