North Carolina."

Features and Attractions
It’s a relaxing mountain escape.
An exciting outdoor adventure. A scenic getaway. Blue Waters Mountain
Lodge is all of these things and so much more, making it the perfect spot for
your next vacation – and vacations to follow.
Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of
western North Carolina and nestled along the shoreline of picturesque 2,800 acre
Santeetlah Lake in the lush Nantahala National Forest, Blue Waters Mountain
Lodge put you in the heart on one of the nation’s most beautiful areas.
Known for its natural splendor, activity filled outdoor lifestyle and deep
serenity, this majestic setting offers a wealth of activities or the perfect
backdrop to do nothing at all.
This unique combination of relaxation and
action packed fund starts at the Lodge itself where you’ll find a game room
complete with billiards, cards, darts and a variety of indoor games as well as
croquet and horseshoes outdoors. For a quiet alternative, the Lodge offers
a well-stocked reading library and plenty of decks with outstanding lake and
mountain views that invite you to settle in and relish the solitude.
Fisherman will enjoy casting from the
Lodge’s shoreline into scenic Santeetlah Lake, western North Carolina’s premier
destination for water sports enthusiasts. Santeetlah Lake’s 48-mile
shoreline of pristine beauty, as filmed in the Hollywood production “Nell”,
provides the perfect backdrop for water skiing, swimming canoeing, boating and
jet skiing. Santeetlah Lake also boasts state record bass and muskee for
the serious fisherman. It’s easy to enjoy plenty of fun on the water,
since the Lodge’s helpful and knowledgeable staff is standing by to make
arrangements for you to rent pontoons, fishing boats, ski boats and wave
runners. Minutes away the Nantahala River offers a different kind of
adventure with North Carolina’s most challenging whitewater rafting, canoeing
and kayaking, and the Lodge’s staff can also direct you to whitewater adventures
on the Ocoee River, home of the 1996 Summer Games whitewater events.
Hikers of all levels, from advanced climbers
to scenic strollers, will find plenty to savor on the hundreds of miles of
hiking trails that originate just a short distance from the Lodge. These
trails wind their way through dense and often untouched forests, past hidden
waterfalls and alongside sparkling mountain streams, promising you a memorable
day of picnicking, trekking or simply exploring. Most notable and less
than 6 miles is the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, dedicated to the American poet
killed in action in World War I, whose several hundred year old tulip poplars
and hemlocks rival the west coast’s sequoias in stature and beauty.
Horseback riders will also enjoy the trails of Graham County – and the views
that surround them – and the Lodge staff will be happy to make riding
arrangements for you through several rental and guide services.
Choices abound for golfers, thanks to the
plethora of nearby courses, scenic setting and pleasant climate. With
terrain reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands, it’s no wonder that some of the
nation’s most scenic courses are located conveniently to the Lodge. At
your request, the staff can arrange for you to challenge some of these
remarkable courses, including Cherokee Hills Golf and Country Club, Butternut
Creek Golf Course, Mill Creek Country Club and Smoky Mountain Country Club.
Blue Waters Mountain Lodge also puts you
within ten miles of many other area points of interest, including Chief
Unalaska’s Grave, the start to the Trail of Tears and the scenic Charcoal Skyway
between Robbinsville, North Carolina and Tellico Plains, Tennessee. Less
than an hour lies Cherokee, North Carolina, home to a thriving Native American
community with museums and attractions, as well as Harrah’s Casino. Within
a two-hour drive – perfect for a day trip – you’ll find the Tennessee tourist
destinations of Knoxville, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and the Great Smoky Mountain
National Park, the nation’s most visited park in the national park system.
The cozy lodge is the perfect place to
return to at the end of a busy day, thanks to the traditional southern cuisine
served in the dining room. Prepared with a new age flair, and complete
with homemade breads and desserts, entrees at Blue Waters Mountain Lodge are
complimented by fresh local fruits and vegetables, and herbs from the Lodge’s
gardens. Comfortable rooms, with or without lake views, a bountiful
breakfast and plenty of peace and quiet all come together to make this special
place a home away from home that you’ll relish returning to, year after year.
