Your
hospitable Innkeeper, Dutch born Johannes Tromp, is a former Chef and New York
City Restaurateur. He was Director of Catering for the famed Rainbow Room atop
of Rockefeller Center and later General Manager of New York's "Windows on
the World" Restaurant atop of the World Trade Center.
Set in the "Garden of the Waxhaws"
that produced presidents and governors in
the nation's infancy, Kilburnie offers guests a luxurious base for
relaxation, conducting business, seeing the region's many historic sites,
enjoying the area's sporting activities, or celebrating weddings and other
family events. Kilburnie
provides an unsurpassed breakfast, served in the President George Washington dining
room. Carved moldings and antique furniture add to the gracious ambiance
of the Inn.

The house features a significant collection of historic
prints and paintings, and each of its five bedrooms (all with
fire-places and spacious baths) bears the name of individuals who made a
mark on the region's and nation's history.
Kilburnie is nestled amid woodlands and pastures where cattle and horses graze.
The South Lawn is designed to resemble an ou tdoors room, which can accommodate
tents for weddings and special events.
Behind the inn is a nature path, which leads through the woodland where guests
can stroll to enjoy the wildlife backyard habitat. Bridges spanning the branches
make discovering the woods fun.
Amenities include:
Complimentary soft drink
bar, unlimited free local calls, in-room telephone and cable television
with VCR, all bathrooms are outfitted with "Ultrabath" whirlpool, shower, and
hairdryer, one-half mile woodland nature trail.

|
The Inn features three
large piazzas with comfortable rocking chairs where guests can relax
while enjoying the bucolic views.
Breakfast at Kilburnie,
prepared and served by Johannes, is unsurpassed. Waking up, one m ight
smell the freshly baked bread and muffins, which accompany the two-course feast.
The first course usually consists of a fruit appetizer such as his Poached Pears
and Blueberries, his Southern Pecan Peaches, or maybe broiled Grapefruit. The
Main course could be Oven Shirred Eggs or Herbed Goat Cheese Omelets, or any egg
dish he is inspired to create each morning. The coffee served by Johannes is
rich and aromatic.
The grounds of Kilbur nie are designed to
accommodate wedding ceremonies and receptions, and events of all types and
sizes. The South Lawn can harbor tents up to 100' x 40', and has in-lawn
electrical connections. There is ample off street parking. Small intimate
weddings can be held on the back piazza or in one of the Kilburnie gathering
rooms.
Kilburnie's quiet and relaxing country setting
belies its proximity to downtown Lancaster (3 miles) and bustling Charlotte, NC
(30 miles). Park-like grounds and woodlands surround the
historic Inn.
Built in 1827, Kilburnie was listed on the National
Register of Historic Places in 1979, its antebellum architecture being described
as "outstanding in its style and grace".
Faced with demolition in 1999, the building was moved to historic Craig Farm
(whose circa 1830 house is also on the National Register) and faithfully
restored. South Carolina Governor Jim Hodges presided over the opening
of the Inn on May 21, 2000.
